THE FUNCTION feat. The Blackout Game Night | Brilliant or BS? Trivia Showdown
Are you a trivia lover or a really good bluffer? Prove it! Join us Thursday, 6/26 for another edition of THE FUNCTION game night feat. The Blackout Game Night …
Brilliant or BS?
Trivia Showdown
This is a fun trivia showdown where knowing the answer is optional but sounding like you do is everything. Learn directly from the game’s creators before jumping into a night of laughs, lies and light-hearted competition as you play to win the coveted titles of “Most Brilliant Player (M.B.P)” or “Best in B.S.”
This event is open to all and perfect for trivia buffs, game-night lovers, and anyone with a good poker face.
See you there!
about brilliant or bs?
Brilliant or BS? is the LA-based Black-owned, woman-owned board game publisher led by the wife/husband duo of Kimelia Weathers Smith and Nick Smith. Their hit bluffing trivia game has been featured in Essence, Oprah and Good Housekeeping and is now available in select Walmart, Target and Barnes & Noble stores nationwide.
How it works: Each round a player (The Judge) reads a multiple-choice trivia question. The other players use ABC cards to secretly answer then, without saying which answer they chose, try to convince The Judge that they’re an expert on the topic. If they don't know the answer, players are encouraged to fake it! The Judge carefully interrogates the other players to figure out who knows the correct answer (Brilliant) and who's only pretending to know (BS). Earn points and win the game by being the most convincing or by catching the other players in their lies!

The Cypher Sessions | Vol. 004 | Connection and Community Building in LA — The Places and Spaces
In Residence at Sip & Sonder presents …
The Cypher Sessions with Dr. Byron Young
Join Sonder Impact, Sip & Sonder, and DoingItWell.org as they present Dr. Byron Young’s “The Cypher Sessions,” where community, culture, and critical dialogue converge.
This time, we’re diving into the heartbeat of Los Angeles—exploring the places and spaces where connection lives beyond work and home. From bookstores and barbershops to parks, protests, poetry nights, and pop-ups, we’ll reflect on the physical and emotional architecture of belonging.
Where do we go to feel seen, held, and whole?
How can public spaces and creative events become antidotes to loneliness and disconnection?
What does it mean to intentionally build community in the city of angels?
Joining Dr. Young in this vital conversation is Demetrius Murphy, PhD candidate, writer, and thought leader who explores identity, place, and liberation through the lens of geography and Black culture. Demetrius brings a unique perspective on how city spaces shape our experiences of connection—and how we reclaim and reimagine them for our collective well-being.
What to bring:

Your mobile phone
Your love of music
Your thoughts on your favorite places and people in LA

In Residence | The Cypher Sessions | Vol. 003 | A Celebration of Black Women
In Residence at Sip & Sonder presents …
The Cypher Sessions with Dr. Byron Young
Join Sonder Impact, Sip & Sonder, and DoingItWell.org as they present Dr. Byron Young’s “The Cypher Sessions,” a space where community, conversation, and culture come together to uplift and empower.
For this installment of The Cypher Sessions, we gather to honor the wisdom, beauty, strength, and power of Black women.
How have Black women shaped our collective resilience and cultural legacy?
What can we learn from their stories of courage, creativity, and care?
How can we elevate, protect, and celebrate Black women moving forward?
Together, we’ll explore these questions in community—unpacking how Black women have been the backbone of movements, families, and futures, often unrecognized, yet always essential.
This powerful conversation will be co-moderated by this month’s brilliant special guests:
Dominic “Dom” Malone – CEO of Arise Wellness and creator of WELLie, a modern-day oracle for well-being powered by AI. Dom bridges ancestral wisdom with contemporary psychology and innovation, holding space for deep dialogue rooted in identity, personal power, and collective healing.
Geminelle Rollins Malone – Artist, producer, and co-founder of Arise Wellness, offering medicine music as the evening’s featured musical guest. Through sound, Geminelle channels intention and healing, grounding us in rhythm and resonance.
This is a space to reflect, honor, and elevate.
Let’s build. Let’s listen. Let’s exalt the brilliance of Black women.
